Ivermectin in Africa

University of Liverpool study hits UK press

Posted on January 4, 2021

The Andrew Hill / University of Liverpool meta-analysis has now gained the attention of the mainstream media in the United Kingdom, with the Times reporting: “Ivermectin: Tests show cheap drug may reduce Covid-19 death toll” (subscription required) and the Daily Mail headlining “Cheap hair lice drug may cut the risk of hospitalised Covid patients dying by up to 80%, study finds“.

The Times reported:

A cheap and widespread drug has shown the potential for “transformative” changes in Covid-19 mortality rates, according to an early analysis.

A leaked presentation from a closed scientific meeting claims that ivermectin, originally an antiparasitic, cut deaths by 80 per cent among patients in hospital. The findings come from the combined results of 11 trials.
